We offer a half-day city highlights tour, including an introduction to Guiyang’s history, a stroll through the city, observing different buildings and tasting classic local snacks. If you arrive before noon and might be interested, please let us know.
Guizhou Province is home to dozens of China’s 55 official ethnic minorities. The Miao people are a large and ancient ethnic group with many branches and rich and diverse cultures. Today, you will explore the charm of the Miao people.
Rural people live in deep mountains and forests with limited resources, so they are good at improvisation: for example, making paper from wood pulp. Visit a village where people still make paper like their ancestors to this day.
Together with your guide, find a local traditional papermaking expert and learn how clever his ancestors were thousands of years ago, making paper from wood without any smart machines.
Use your imagination to make unique paper crafts with your own hands under the guidance of an experienced natural paper maker.
Enjoy lunch at a farmhouse made with fresh ingredients. Then visit a small and primitive village, famous for its winnowing fan-like shape. A stroll along the bluestone path will allow you to observe the daily life of ethnic minorities up close.
In addition to the Han and 55 officially recognized ethnic minorities, the Miao has another branch that claims that they do not belong to any tribe and should be recognized as the 56th ethnic minority. They feel that they are too different from others, but have been fighting for recognition for many years.
If you are interested in the facts behind this divergence of views and want to interact with the villagers, your guide can arrange a short visit to a local family.
Unlike most Chinese couplets written on red paper, these people hang a pair of dyed cloth on the door, which shows that batik is very important to the locals. They dye white cloth with blue grass and paint their own totems with wax to express awe and worship.
You will have the opportunity to walk into their dyeing workshop and learn how to make exquisite batik.
After lunch, visit another special Miao village, known for its ornate miniskirt costumes and unique and creative centuries-old food storage methods.
The selected festival is held in a town not far from Kaili. Our guide and driver will accompany you from Kaili to attend your selected festival.
Since there are many activities to see, it usually takes two days to witness the various celebrations. At the end of each day, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Kaili.

- This is a small group tour with a fixed itinerary and guaranteed departures.
You will travel with other people (maximum of 12). - Smart casual dress and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
- The tour guide may adjust the itinerary due to closure of the museums each Monday.
- At the conclusion of the tour, a transfer from your hotel to Hongqiao or Pudong Airport in Shanghai is available upon request at a surcharge.
